18-Year-Old Caught After Attacking Children At Park In Westchester

An 18-year-old student was taken into custody after attacking children at a park in Northern Westchester, police announced.

The incident began on Wednesday, March 27, when an unknown man began physically attacking children at Downing Park in Yorktown, Yorktown Police announced just before 2 p.m. 

Officers soon responded to the park and apprehended and arrested the suspect as he fled into a wooded area of the adjacent FDR State Park. 

Police soon learned the suspect was an 18-year-old student at the BOCES Fox Meadow School in Yorktown. The department did not release his name.

The injuries of the children who were attacked were not life-threatening, police said, adding that the Yorktown Central School District was advised of the incident out of an abundance of caution. 

There is currently no remaining threat to the community, authorities said. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
